BODISENG
SPRING / SUMMER 2023

The typical commotion of Friday nights in SoHo was transformed by the neighborhood’s most turbulent yet graceful bi-annual venture: Spring Studios became a humble arctic tundra for Chinese down clothing brand Bosideng, who introduced a unique take on New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2023 season.

Founded in 1976 under the technical mission of formulating a down clothing brand for all, the label has since found its footing in a new world under the supervision of its Creative Director Taoray Wang. Inspired by icy cold winters and arid deserts, Wang cited her goal of finding a new avenue of outerwear, and perhaps even a sexier one.

What began as a humble menswear brand has now become one of the chicest new labels of the industry, and Bosideng is bold, fierce, and reinventing fashion by bridging two seasons no one thought could ever work together. It is the paradoxical nature of the collection that created an unbelievable fantasy between ice and fire.

The show itself was accompanied by a simple runway that did little to take away from the captivating pieces of Bosideng’s collection. From asymmetrical miniskirts to cutout pants to cropped jackets, every look incorporated the brand’s distinct down material. Bosideng completed the impossible by proving that opposites indeed do attract. Who knew pairing down jackets with bike shorts could be so pleasing to the eyes? Bosideng did, and it almost seemed too good to be true. And yet, it was.

From the third look onwards, the many pieces that ensued evoked audible gasps from audience members as models walked out, and awestruck goosebumps were unavoidable. Even sharp matte blacks captivated audiences let alone the piercing cold silvers that flawlessly reflected the dazzling lights. While down clothing is often viewed as a style of clothing that often inflates bodices, Bodiseng yet again proved this to be false. They utilized leather corsetry to enhance slim bodices by strapping their down material crop tops to models and pairing these looks with shorts or asymmetrical skirts. Loose-flowing cutout pants were paired with cinched down-vests that amplified the sultry appeal of a sheltered body under such remarkably-detailed pieces.

Bosideng is no longer the traditional outerwear label they once branded themselves to be. They are bold, fierce, and reinventing fashion by bridging two seasons no one thought could ever work together. It is the paradoxical nature of the collection that created an unbelievable fantasy between ice and fire, and that passion is sealed through the looks.

The show wrapped with a standing ovation from a few audience members, a well-deserved one at that.  The collection was, without a doubt, absolutely arresting. Their newest collection proved that Bosideng is exactly what it claims to be—a global favorite, and one that is here to stay.
