Luxury womenswear designer Jonathan Simkhai debuted his Spring / Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection under the guise of perhaps one of the most elegant materials to date: amber.

Representing the duality between the archaic past and the unimaginable future, the amber-inspired collection was rooted in preserving simplicity. From earth-toned gowns to organic silhouettes, the 37-look collection bridged sensibility and style. 

The eponymous label was established in 2010 under the goal of constructing a new facade for the modern woman by finding elegance in solitude. This season, the collection recalled an infinite timeline of expression, from fossil-influenced lace to dazzling crystal embroideries. During this period of collective societal turmoil, Simkhai drew motivation from the state of the world to honor the legacies that have influenced the creative world today, while using his own talents to revolutionize trends for the future to come.

There is much to gape at with this collection. No one is presenting class like Jonathan Simkhai, and this season’s silhouettes provided a solemn representation of womenswear, accented with a touch of romance. Though each look possessed its own poise, a smattering of looks was accompanied by chic sunglasses that elevated each look with an edgier sense of grace.

The collection is an elegant homage to the timeless sophistication of the female form. Through nostalgic techniques that serve as an ode to generations of fashion, the strength of femininity is certainly reflected–and, more importantly, celebrated–through Simkhai’s S/S ’23 collection.
