NADIA MANJARREZ STUDIO BRIDAL SPRING 2023

Photographs by Raul Tovar

As spring unearths corners of the Earth hidden and tucked away by winter, a new outlook and perspective upon familiar landscapes are always uncovered. Within her Spring 2023 Bridal Collection, Nadia Manjarrez unearths the “significance and mystique surrounding wedding rituals” especially within her Mexican culture. Transforming traditional Mexican wedding elements such as big ball gowns and integrating the dahlia (Mexico’s national flower), Manjarrez captures the beautiful remnants of tradition while welcoming the introduction of modern day designs.

Throughout the collection, Manjarrez integrates various removable elements within the dresses to add an ever changing flair to traditional wedding dresses. In Look 8, “Sol”, the cape and dress smoothly flow along the silhouette of the model while complementing the motion and structure of each other. Mimicking the traditional Mantilla Veil, the drama of the cape resembles the circular veil on a grander level while allowing itself to be easily removed during any moment of the wedding. This grand appearance also serves as the centerpiece of the cloudlike “Maite Gown and Lupita Train” in Look 10 with its removable sleeves and train.

Beyond the functional variations of the collection, Manjarrez unites many floral elements through lace applique, embroidery, beading on many of the dresses. The dahlia-adorned “Kikey Gown” in Look 4 contains a removable under skirt and can be easily adapted to the “Kikey Cocktail” during the reception or more casual times during the wedding. The “Nadia Gown” in Look 7 continues the dahlia motif while incorporating a detachable train within the elaborate dress. Meanwhile, Manjarrez explores a greater variety of the floral inspirations with the poppy and sunflowers in Looks 1 and 3 respectively. The “Luna” in Look 1 applies beaded poppies on the bustier top before slowly expanding out towards its satin skirt. Contrastingly, the “Mariana Gown and Cape” are much more adorned with sunflowers throughout the entire creation. Whether it’s the balance between her modular designs and intricate details, Nadia Manjarrez’s Spring 2023 Bridal Collection captures the essence of spring’s metamorphic impact upon the world in nature, society, and our daily lives.
